M.Net launches Telstra mobile Olympics site

Mobile solutions provider m.Net is set to unveil its most ambitious mobile content build for Telstra’s Beijing 2008 Olympic Games mobile internet site which Telstra anticipates will be accessed by millions of mobile subscribers.

Telstra has partnered with Seven Network Operations and Yahoo!7 to deliver live streaming feeds from the Channel 7 and SBS Olympic Games coverage to Next G™ mobile phones. m.Net,which secured the multi- million dollar contract to deliver a mobile solution that includes real-time coverage and on demand video of major events such as the opening and closing ceremonies and behind the scenes footage, in addition to news reports, medal tallies, SMS alerts, and mobile games.

m.Net’s Chief Marketing Officer, Scott Johnson, said “an event like the Olympics offers a unique opportunity to showcase the enormous potential of mobile technology to keep people informed and up to date. This is one of the most sophisticated mobile sites ever built, not just in Australia but anywhere in the world.” m.Net designed and built the Telstra mobile Beijing 2008 Olympic Games site to the highest quality standards and engaged in exhaustive testing to ensure it would be capable of handling the huge number of users expected to sign up for mobile Olympic Games coverage and results.

The site is hosted at m.Net’s secure Telstra data centre with full mirroring and redundancy to ensure an error-free service. Telstra subscribers can opt into a special Alert Service to receive reminders about their favourite events while streaming Video On Demand ensures that full coverage is always available, even if they missed the live broadcast.
