Google silences news feedback.

In August 2007 Google announced that they would allow those people feature in stories to comment. In the latest redesign of Google news it quietly decided to cancel the service. In a statement on the launch of the service Google said:

"we're hoping that by adding this feature, we can help enhance the news experience for readers, testing the hypothesis that -- whether they're penguin researchers or presidential candidates-- a personal view can sometimes add a whole new dimension to the story."

The system for commenting was rather convoluted and the feature never really caught on.

To comment, users had to search Google News for their name, and then email Google News with their comment. Once the team had verified their identity, the comment was posted on Google News.

Google has been cutting back on a number of services as revenue growth begins to slow. Google Notebook,Dodgeball, micoblogging service Jaiku and Google Mashup have all been shut down by the internet giant.

Google has also recently stopped selling ads on radio, newspapers and TV.
