Social media damage now a primary concern for risk managers

The risks to corporate reputation and brand image from damaging material posted on social media are a big concern for Australian companies. Traditional risk management consultancy Aon Australia has recognised this by moving into the social media monitoring space in a partnership deal with risk assessment firm SR7.

The deal will see SR7 provide social media intelligence, insight, analysis and risk assessment to Aon clients.

"By auditing and monitoring social media platforms on a 24/7 basis and offering comprehensive analysis and reporting of the data, SR7 provides protection in the form of an early warning system and the intelligence to deal with social media risks," said Jason Disborough, Chief Commercial Officer of Aon Australia.

Head of Monitoring and Audit at SR7, James Griffin said that recent research suggested that social media was now playing a big part in corporate risk assessment.

“The ultimate convergence of social media platforms like Facebook with Google has meant that communication now flows freely across the internet. User generated content, blogs, forums and social media all now contribute to the presence of an organisation online, ultimately having an effect on how consumers view your organisation,” concluded Mr Griffin.
