Twitter and Wikipedia strain and crack under news Of Michael Jackson's death

Twitter is currently being overwhelmed by huge numbers of tweets and users logging on to find out news of the pop superstar's death.

At the time of writing Twitter website was alternating between messages stating the site was over capacity, forcing users into the mobile interface or simply failing to load at all.

However Twitter was not the only site to be choked with traffic. Wikipedia was hit first, with users rushing to update his page.

The LA times also fell victim to a surge in traffic as Twitter users tweeted about its confirmed reports in unprecedented numbers.
