Twitter testing new business focused features

Twitter has announced that they have begun testing a new feature specifically for business users. The new feature allows multiple users of a Twitter account  to identify themselves without taking up any precious characters.

From the Twitter Blog:

"The feature we are beta testing is called 'Contributors' – it enables users to engage in more authentic conversations with businesses by allowing those organizations to manage multiple contributors to their account. The feature appends the contributor's username to the tweet byline, making the business to consumer communication more personal; e.g. if @Twitter invites @Biz to tweet on its behalf, then a tweet from @Twitter would include @Biz in the byline so that users know more about the real people behind organizations."

Whilst the feature is only being released to a subset of users at this stage, it will be be supported by the API so business focused applications such as CoTweet and Hootsuite will be able to integrate the new feature.

This kind of feature would be great for customer service accounts such as Telstra's @bigpondteam or for politiciansto help identify when a ghost Tweeter is at work.
