What we do
Digital Media Guide explains the digital media landscape for Australian small businesses, not-for-profits, creators, students and curious readers. We publish guides on search engine optimisation, social media marketing, email marketing and the Spam Act, online advertising, streaming and catch-up TV, digital radio, privacy and online advertising, media literacy, podcasting, video for social media, writing for the web, and image copyright and licensing. Our readability tool checks how easy your copy is to read.
About this domain
digital-media.net.au hosted an Australian digital media industry news site from around 2008 to 2011, covering topics such as catch-up TV, digital radio and online advertising. It later lapsed and was listed for sale. The domain was relaunched in 2026 as an independent explainer site, and every page has been written from scratch. We aren't connected with any previous operator or publication, and we don't republish old articles.
How we research
We base our guides on authoritative sources, including:
- the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC);
- the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and the eSafety Commissioner;
- Australian legislation on the Federal Register of Legislation, such as the Spam Act 2003, Privacy Act 1988 and Copyright Act 1968;
- official platform documentation, such as Google Search Central;
- the Australian Copyright Council, Creative Commons and reputable reference works.
We list sources on every page and show when each guide was last updated. We don't invent statistics, audience figures, test results or reviews. Read our editorial policy.
General information only
Our guides are general information, not legal advice. Laws, regulator guidance and platform rules change, so check the official source and get professional advice for your situation.
How we're funded
We may earn a commission from some links and from clearly labelled featured listings. This never affects what our guides say. See our editorial policy and feature your business page.
